1 April marks the end of submissions of project teams before the EDPR University Challenge, a contest for students related to renewable energy. The total pool of awards amounts to nearly Pln 40,000.00!

The EDPR University Challenge is a contest promoted by EDP Renewables, one of the biggest players in the renewable energy market. The contestants’ task is to develop a project in one of the four areas below:

  • innovations: projects aimed at increasing the use of renewable sources of energy;
  • efficiency: research into technological innovations which make it possible to boost the effectiveness of the production processes in renewable sources of energy;
  • marketing and strategy: increasing awareness of renewable energy and/or promotion of EDP Renewables’ operations in Poland;
  • sustainable development – environmental protection and local development.

In order to take part in the contest, teams of 2-5 students and university tutors need to be registered by 1 April. Later on, by 10 June, the contestants will have time to develop the project and submit the report. The contest results will be announced during a gala held in October. Each finalist will be offered two minutes to present his/her idea during the so-called elevator pitch. The jury will select the winners.

This  edition’s winners will be awarded three financial prizes. The winning team will receive Pln 15,000.00 and its tutor will be awarded Pln 5,000.00. The second best team will receive Pln 10,000.00 and its coordinator – Pln 2,500.00. The third team will be awarded Pln 5,000.00 and its tutor will receive Pln 1,250.00.

In the second Polish edition of the contest, the winning project entitled Electric Wave – Breakwaters producing electricity was presented by students from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, supervised by their professor Krzysztof Nalepa.
