EDP Renewables presents the winners of the University Challenge

EDP Renewables presents the winners of the third Polish edition of the University Challenge renewable energy competition

 

Warsaw, 4th October 2018: EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world's largest producers of wind energy, announced the winners of the third Polish edition of the University Challenge competition, addressed to university students.

The EDPR University Challenge is a contest promoted by EDP Renewables, one of the biggest players in the renewable energy market. The contestants’ task is to develop a project in one of the four areas below:

  • Innovations: Projects aimed at increasing the use of renewable sources of energy.
  • Efficiency: Research into technological innovations which make it possible to boost the effectiveness of the production processes in renewable sources of energy.
  • Marketing and strategy: Increasing awareness of renewable energy and/or promotion of EDP Renewables’ operations in Poland.
  • Sustainable development – environmental protection and local development.

The award ceremony was hosted by the EDPR CEO,Mr. João Manso Neto, who was accompanied by the management representatives of the Polish branch of the company. The event took place today in Warsaw.

The authors of the best projects presented them to the audience and competition jury composed of: Łukasz Zagórski – Deputy Managing Director of EDPR Poland, Robert Adamczewski – Head of the Project Development Department at EDPR Poland, Telmo Vieira – Partner at PremiValor Consulting, and Maciej Kapalski from the Ministry of Energy.

The winning project, entitled ChargNet: electromobility starts here, was prepared by the team representing warsaw University of Technology, composed of Mikołaj Koszel, Iwo Piętak and Emanuel Zawodnik. The team's supervisor was Tomasz Gajowik.

The second place was taken by the project entitled „Electric Vehichles Energy Storage Management System”, the students of Poznań University of Technology, Mikołaj Walkowiak and Józef Borys who worked under the supervision of Damian Głuchy. The third position on the podium was occupied by Edyta Bosacka and Damian Sikora, the author of the project „Hill heating system to improve the functioning of the bee hive”, the students of Poznań University of Technology who worked under the supervision of Mariusz Świderski.  

The prize for the first place was PLN 15,000, for the second one – PLN 10,000, and for the third one – PLN 5,000. If the students implemented projects with the material support of their professors, their supervisors received PLN 5,000, 2,500 and 1,250 respectively.
