There are five hundred Solaris buses already in Italy. A fully low-floor new Urbino 12 for the SUN S.p.A. operator from Novara is the jubilee vehicle and also the first Solaris Urbino of the new, recently introduced design on the Italian market.

It is almost a decade since the first Solaris models –Trollino 18 trolleybuses for Rome and articulated Urbino for Salerno – debuted on Italian roads. The following years brought further orders for Urbino from other cities of the Italian Peninsula, including Ancona, Bari, Biella, Bologna, Cagliari, Chieti, Como, Genoa, Milan, Modena, Naples, Parma, Pisa and San Remo.

2014 was particularly successful for Solaris on the Italian market. With one hundred and two units delivered, the company hit a record in terms of deliveries to Italy. This year Solaris is celebrating on the occasion of the delivery of the500th bus. The jubilee vehicle has been recently handed over to the operator from Novara.
“We greatly appreciate the confidence our Italian customers placed in our company. Such jubilees are the best motivation for further activities. It is certainly a joint success of the whole team of Solaris Italia and their co-workers from Poland who support them every day,” said Eberhard Wolters, member of the Solaris Bus & Coach executive board of directors for Marketing, Sales and After Sales.

The 500th unit is fully low-floor new Solaris Urbino 12. The power in the vehicle is supplied by the 240 kW DAF/PACCAR MX-11 Euro 6 engine which meets the most restrictive fuel emission standard. The bus is also equipped with an automatic ZF 6AP gear box. In the 12-metre Urbino, thirty seats are available and fourteen of them are pedestal-free. The energy-efficient and economical LED technology provides interior and exterior lighting. Behind the one-piece windscreen the driver will find a traffic signal control device which guarantees the bus priority at junctions. Powerful air-conditioning (Konvekta UL II 500) ensures a pleasant journey for both passengers and bus drivers.

The recently-launched new Solaris Urbino 12, the flagship product of Polish manufacturer of city buses and trams, is an innovative city bus, which provides robust rigidity while being significantly lighter in weight. The new construction of the vehicle is expected to lower fuel consumption and operating costs and guarantees highly distinguished aesthetics. High standards of comfort for passengers were achieved through a spacious and bright interior supported by its assured handling. The whole was completed with the eye-catching, expressive, but also functional design which creates attractive travelling environment for passengers. Service accessibility of the new Urbino 12 is improved with screwed body paneling, allowing quick replacement and repair in case of damage. Hatches now open to 170°, 40° more than before, to facilitate easy access to components.

The new Solaris Urbino 12 was honored with this year’s prestigious IF DESIGN Award. The fruit of Solaris’s engineers’ work and was appreciated by a jury consisting of fifty three international experts in the field of design. The winning designs were chosen from almost five thousand projects from all over the world. The bus was also appreciated by The International Association of Public Transport, winning the first prize in the design category of UITP Awards 2015 as an innovative project which creates great value for public transport development and gives attractive impulses to its operation.
